What is ECCI ?

The European Erasmus+ project Escape Climate Change Initiative (ECCI) aims to raise awareness and encourage action among pupils, teachers, and administrative staff through an innovative pedagogical initiative based on an escape game. The aim is to facilitate the cooperation of the participants to co-create real concrete solutions to the problems identified. Following this structure, the aim is to ensure awareness of climate change among students and teachers, as well as to facilitate the understanding of the causes and effects of climate change as an interconnected system across the whole ECCI project.

Who can play the game?

Any group of pupils of age 14-17, leaded by a facilitator (i.e. teacher).

What is the role of the teacher ?

The teacher is the facilitator of the whole initiative. In the physical game act as a game master. In the digital game manage the class, access the statistics. The teacher also lead the pre-game and post-game phases.

How does the game work?

Pre-game Phase: This stage involves assessing the students’ existing knowledge about the topic. Through various methods such as quizzes, discussions, or assessments, the facilitator gauges the students’ understanding and familiarity with the subject matter before the game begins.

Game Phase:

  • Physical Game: During this phase, students actively engage in playing the game applying their knowledge, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking abilities to complete challenges or tasks within the game context.
  • Digital Game: Teachers register on the platform, generate a class code, and share it with the class. Students register on the platform, log in to access the digital game, and play. The digital game consists of three levels with the possibility to resume the game at any time. During the game, statistics about progress are sent to the platform.

Post-game Phase: Following the gameplay, a debriefing session takes place to reflect on the lesson learned from the gaming experience. The facilitator leads discussions, asks questions, and encourages students to share their insights, experiences, and observations. This phase aims to reinforce key concepts, address any misconceptions, and encourage deeper understanding and application of the topic.

For the digital game, teachers can monitor class statistics, while students can view their own progress statistics.

Are the physical and digital game different ?

Yes. Both share the same principles and themes but are different games.

Do I need to register to the platform?

Only for the digital game.

What is the class code?

The class code is a unique identifier generated by the facilitator and shared with students. It serves as a means for students to access and participate in the same virtual world.
